Nutrition During Cancer Treatment: A Practical Guide
Dr. Hina KhanApril 18, 2026
Good nutrition supports your body through treatment. Simple, locally-available foods that help — and what to avoid.
Eating well during cancer treatment helps you tolerate therapy, maintain strength, and recover faster. Here is what we recommend for patients in Pakistan.
Build every meal around protein
Protein helps repair tissue and keeps muscle strong. Good local sources: daal, eggs, yogurt, paneer, chicken, and fish. Aim for protein in every meal and snack.
Stay hydrated
Drink 8–10 glasses of water daily. Lassi, fresh juice, and clear soups also count.
Foods to favour
- Fresh seasonal fruits (washed thoroughly)
- Whole grains — brown rice, whole-wheat roti, oats
- Cooked vegetables
- Nuts and seeds for healthy fats
Foods to avoid
- Raw or undercooked meat and eggs
- Unpasteurised dairy
- Street food during treatment cycles
